In 1973 the Holy See advised communities as to when and how to adapt the celebration of Mass to respond to the particular needs of their younger members the general principles for faithful celebration of the Church’s liturgy.
This advice included the following:
‘Sometimes... if the place itself and the community permit it,
it will be appropriate to celebrate the liturgy of the word, including a homily,
with the children in a separate, but not too distant room. ’

In our parish such a ‘Liturgy of the Word with Children’ is currently celebrated twice monthly, at each of the 9am and 1030 Masses. The schedule of these celebrations can be found here.
This 'Liturgy of the Word with Children' is not a crèche, or Sunday School, but an age-appropriate provision for children aged 4 to 7 of what is provided for others in the Liturgy of the Word at Mass.
The leaders of this worship seek to ensure that these celebrations have the dignity proper to all acts of worship: and that they help the children to know, reverence, praise and worship God in all his glory.
