Purpose

The parish Liturgy Group provides a forum for reflection on parish celebration of the Church’s liturgy. Other groups have the responsibility for the preparation of particular liturgies. This group is more concerned with the development of parish policy for the celebration of liturgy.

Membership

The Committee is appointed by the parish priest. There is an attempt to have a member from each of the Mass communities in the parish – i.e. each of the Sunday Mass groups and the weekday Mass group.

Activities

The Liturgy Group meets about four times a year:

• to inform itself about the Church’s teaching about the Liturgy

• to reflect on its experience of the celebration of the Liturgy in the parish

• to consider policy matters

During the current year members have considered the Christmas and Easter seasons, and our parish’s practice when celebrating funerals and baptisms. Members who are appointed to represent a particular Mass group also have a pastoral relationship with that group – and are a contact point for encouraging people to serve the parish by training as ministers of the word, etc.
