The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. Active in England & Wales since 1844, today it continues to address social and material need in all its many forms.
The aim of the St Vincent de Paul Society is the same today as it was at its conception in the 19th Century: to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need.
The concept of need is broader than financial hardship, so visiting the sick, the lonely, the addicted, the imprisoned and those suffering from disabilities form a large proportion of the Society's work.
The essential work of the Society is person to person contact, and given this, the time, commitment and enthusiasm of our volunteers are at the very heart of all the work we do. The SVP is a voluntary organisation which relies on the support of members and others who are able to give of their time. We very much welcome new volunteers and are extremely grateful for any time or services you may be able to give to us.
