Praying the Mass is a process designed to help the Church in Westminster prepare to receive and use fruitfully the new edition of the Roman Missal and its new English translation.
Introduced by Archbishop Vincent Nichols for use across the diocese, it will provide parishes and schools with resources to renew our understanding and love of the Mass, and it will help us take the steps necessary to prepare for the new translation of the Mass which we will begin using later this year.
- The first stage of Praying the Mass focuses on our understanding of the Mass and how we pray it. This first stage begins in February 2011 and continues until July 2011.
- The second stage of Praying the Mass will begin to introduce the new translations and musical settings of the Missal texts. This stage will begin before the Summer but be most apparent from September onwards.
First Stage
During each month of the first stage of Praying the Mass parishioners will be given a reflection sheet Ito take home from Mass. This will usually be distributed on the first Sunday of each month. The sheet can be used by individuals for their private reflection, but is designed to be used as a starter for conversation about how we pray the Mass and what it means to us.
- Those sheets will be available to download from this page, once they have been distributed on the relevant Sunday.
- There will be a number of small groups meeting in the parish to discuss the sheets. Details will be given in the newsletter. You are welcome to join one, or to start your own. If you start a group and wish to publicise it, then please pass details to Fr Allen.
Second Stage
As and when there is more information about the second stage of the process, it will be provided here.
